This unexpectedly light-touch red blend is 50/50 of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, grown by a pair of my good school friends, who have started vineyard management company to regenerate conventionally grown vineyards into organically grown sound vineyards. Both grapes come from the vineyards located in the northern part of Los Carneros, where San Pablo Bay's cool breezes help grapes to slowly mature. The grapes were picked at the low sugar level, both around 22 Brix, and the phenolics have ripen beautifully by the time the grapes were harvested in fall.
Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon were picked at the different times, on Sep 20, and Oct 21 in 2019 respectively, and aged separately for about 9 months. This blend shows pure goodness of the fruits, which characterizes a cool climate of the region in California.
