Fermentation & Aging
Harvested on September 19 and 23, 2024, this Pinot Noir comes from Alder Springs Vineyard, a dramatic, high-elevation site in northern Mendocino County. The vineyard is carved into steep hillsides surrounded by pine forest, with parcels planted across varied aspects and soils. At elevations between 1,700–2,700 feet, the vines experience cool nights and sunny days, producing fruit with remarkable freshness, natural acidity, and complexity. This bottling is a blend of clones 459, Swan, Calera, and La Tâche, co-planted in a north-facing block. The first lot was fermented with 50% whole clusters, adding spice, dark fruit character, and structure, while the second lot was fully destemmed to highlight the purity of clone 459. Both fermentations were carried out with native yeasts, and the wines were aged separately in French oak barrels (20% new) before blending.
